During this first week of Art classes the students and I have been reading The Dot by Peter Reynolds. This is a great short story about a young girl in Art class who is feeling like she can't make Art. In the story her teacher encourages her to "just make a mark". She makes a little dot. By the end of the story the girl is making all kinds of creative dots, has her own school art show and is encouraging others to try their best. Just start with a mark and see where it takes you! Tuesday, September 15th is International Dot Day. This celebration is inspired by The Dot book and is meant to encourage us all to always try and never to give up. Students can come to school on Tuesday wearing dots. Get creative! This can be polka dot shirts that you already own, dot stickers, or you can make your own dots and wear them! |
